The term "8 Second Ride" is always associated with bull riding in which a rider mounts a bull and holds on for the wildest ride of his life and trying to stay on for a full 8 seconds. The same holds true for this band who is appropriately named 8 Second Ride. It's all you can do to stay in your seat and hold on otherwise you bound to find yourself on the dance floor or tapping your feet and clapping your hands. With Nashville as a backdrop for home this five-member band has formally only been together since January of 2004 although they have ties that go back a decade.
8 Second Ride is made up of Tim Waters who handles lead vocals, acoustic guitar and fiddle, his brother Chris Waters plays drums, Jeff Johnson on guitar, Race Godson on bass guitar and Jeb Baldwin on steel guitar.
The band's influences include the likes of The Charlie Daniels Band, Merle Haggard and Johnny Paycheck just to name a few. Their greatest brush with fame includes opening for Kenny Chesney.
As any band will tell you, when starting out you take just about any gig to get some exposure. This was the case of 8 Second Ride when they were booked to play for the "Relay For Life" race in North Carolina. The band assumed they would play to the competitors either before or after the race. As it turned out the band played as the runners made their laps around the track - waving to the band as they passed on each lap! perhaps that event is what got the band "off and runnin'"!
The band is currently in talks with a Nashville recording label and hope to get their first hit out in the upcoming year. To learn more about the band, you can visit their website at www.8sr.com. Below are pictures from their first visit to the club. Click on an image for a larger view.
